COVID-19 Community Update 5/1/2020

COVID-19 Community Update

Dear SLV Family,

We are continuing to maintain precaution and physical distancing throughout our operations, and we encourage our community to continue exercising caution as well. While it appears our State and nation may be headed toward a gradual re-opening of public spaces, we are working carefully to ensure the safety of our team and our members. Our planning and expectations are that we will respond to changes in State regulations in multiple phases as we analyze conditions locally and best practices for active adult communities like SLV in our industry. We all want to get back to ‘normal’ quickly — however, we expect this will be less like ‘turning on the light switch’ and more like sliding a ‘dimmer switch’ slowly working toward ‘brighter days’ on the horizon.

Below is our latest update regarding COVID-19.

COVID-19 Update: SLV’s Next Phase of Response – 3/22/2020

To our valued citizens and stakeholders,

We hope this message finds you well and in good spirits despite this uncertain time.  It is a great time to reflect on our many blessings and freedoms that we so often take for granted.

At Savannah Lakes Village, we are continuously navigating with care and concern through the COVID-19 event.  Our singular focus, as reemphasized at last week’s Savannah Lakes Village Board meeting, is the safety and welfare of our community and our team.

Earlier last week, we announced changes to Savannah Lakes Village services and operations in accordance with governmental declarations, recommendations, best practices within our industry, and by using localized information to make the best moment-to-moment decisions possible.

Increasingly, our role of providing for a socially dynamic reaction-based lifestyle community is shifting in the immediate short-term, and we are trying to make the best decisions with two primary objectives in mind.

COVID-19 Update: SLV Operational Adjustments – 3/16/2020

To our valued citizens and stakeholders,

We hope this message finds you well and in good spirits during this challenging time.  Please read through the update below very carefully for details on the next steps we are taking in response to COVID-19.  Our single objective is to provide for the health and wellbeing of all SLV owners and all SLV team members.  Since our last update to our community on 3/14/2020, we have constantly monitored and followed CDC, and SC Government/SCDHEC recommendations.  We also attended and participated in a Town Hall webinar hosted by the National Club Association (NCA) earlier this afternoon.  The Town Hall webinar addressed specific recommendations for the club industry and allowed us to collaborate with 2,400 other clubs who were attending the event on adjustments to operations and best practices as we all learn more about COVID-19.

Next Steps: In response to what we have learned over the past 8 hours, here are the next measured steps we are taking, effective immediately:

  1. General Planning and Events:
    1. All special events with more than 50 people in attendance indoors and in one room are being postponed.  This includes events like Green Curtains performances.  Watch for more details and a full list of impacted events to come later this week.
    2. The CDC suggests continuing an active, healthy lifestyle as another way to protect yourself against COVID-19.  This includes maintaining proper nutrition and getting safe exercise (preferably outdoors) wherever and whenever possible.  We are structuring our services accordingly.
  2. Recreation Center:
    1. The sauna, hot tub, indoor pool, and locker rooms are closed starting Tuesday, March 17th through March 31st (we expect dates will be rolling and will be extended as necessary).
    2. All indoor instructor led classes are canceled starting Tuesday, March 17th through March 31st (we expect dates will be rolling and will be extended as necessary).
    3. The fitness room and bowling alley will remain open for now.  We will continue our escalated cleaning of equipment/common surfaces and emphasize to users the added importance right now of users also cleaning all equipment before and after each use.  Wipes and spray are provided for self-cleaning.
    4. All outdoor facilities – bocce, tennis & pickleball – will remain open and accessible at this time.
  3. F&B Services:
    1. All buffets (including the soup & salad bar) will be served by F&B attendants.  We tested this service concept over the weekend, and it was received well.
    2. We are preparing to offer curbside service for call-ahead takeout orders.  More communications to follow later this week.
    3. We will close F&B services on certain nights at one club or the other to limit hours of operations in periods of lower demand at this time.  We will communicate such adjustments to regular operations in advance.
    4. For larger evenings at the River Grille, we are adjusting our table set up and our reservations to aide in suggestions for social distancing.  In addition to increasing spacing between tables, we will also provide tables in the Carolina Room to assist in the spacing of tables.  We hope this will be a minor inconvenience and please know it is in efforts to protect everyone’s health and wellbeing.
    5. We are canceling all live entertainment events through March 31st (we expect dates will be rolling and will be extended as necessary)
    6. If you have reservations at the River Grille, but decide you prefer take-out instead, just give us a call (864-391-4163) and we’ll have your order available for pick up.  An 18% gratuity will be automatically added to take out orders.
  4. Golf Services:
    1. SLV golf services & operations will remain fully operational at this time.
    2. We are continuing to wash and disinfect the SLV golf carts as they are returned.
    3. If you prefer to ride by yourself in your personal cart, we are removing the “two carts per group” rule until further notice.
    4. We are reviewing upcoming events – particularly those events that include indoor gatherings before or afterwards and will make future announcements to any adjustments to such events in advance.

These are our adjustments to services and operations at this specific point in time – additional adjustments as warranted will be swift and communicated quickly to our membership.  We have developed a COVID-19 Task Force, which includes all department leaders so that new information and collaborative decisions can be communicated quickly and effectively to team members and our membership, ensuring that we are nimble during this period of change and uncertainty.

We understand that these adjustments come with impacts to everyone, but we must continue to make decisions that are for the long-term health and wellbeing of all owners and team members.  Our promise to you has been to continue to make measured adjustments to the evolving threat of the COVID-19 virus.  We will continue to monitor and follow all local recommendations – especially those from the State of South Carolina and SCDHEC that pertain to our local region.  We will also continue to participate in all National Club Association Town Hall webinars and bring industry best practices to our community.  We will continue to communicate frequently with you as we all work together as a community and a team through the COVID-19 event.

Finally, we ask for your continued support of all practices we’ve outlined in past messages to limit the spread of COVID-19.  This includes staying home and calling your healthcare provider if you have a fever, respiratory problems, or other symptoms for COVID-19 described by the CDC.

You can also help by providing for the proper and safe disposal of all personal items (disposable cups, cigarette butts, used tissues, bottles, etc.) whether at the clubs or from golf carts after your round.

Thank you for your ongoing assistance in helping to keep our community and our team healthy.  We have an amazing community and an amazing team.  We have no doubts that we will successfully make it through this challenge, and we will be stronger for it by working together.

Yours in Service,

Kirk Smith
